George W. Liles Parkway
The completion of the I-85 interchange and George Liles Parkway in 2002 signaled the real beginning of commercial growth in Afton Village area. Eventually the parkway will extend south all the way to Hwy 49 and north into Kannapolis downtown. The next segment of the parkway will extend from Weddington Road to Hwy 29 and is scheduled to open with in the next several years. Recognizing the strength of this cross county connector, in their site evaluation early in 2000, the YMCA concluded that this George Liles Parkway / I-85 intersection would become one of the most significant intersections in Cabarrus County.
