Headline: Volunteers Needed for Park Watch Program
CONCORD –Park Ranger Pat Merritt is implementing a Park Watch Program for James Dorton Park. City of Concord Parks & Recreation is seeking volunteers to attend an orientation meeting on Monday, August 16 at 6:00pm at Dorton Park.
The Park Watch Program is similar to a typical Neighborhood Watch Program, with the idea of volunteers keeping their eyes open for suspicious activity in the parks and greenway trail. If any suspicious activity is seen, the volunteers will be instructed to call 911. They will also be instructed to stay uninvolved and to not confront anyone before calling 911. The Park Watch Program has been implemented at McGee Park and McEachern Greenway.
A “job description” will be distributed by Park Ranger Pat Merritt at the orientation meeting along with a Park Watch t-shirt for the volunteer. Participants are encouraged but not required to wear the t-shirt while walking in the park.
Those interesting in volunteering for the Park Watch Program are invited to the orientation meeting at the picnic shelter at Dorton Park. The park is located at 5790 Poplar Tent Rd. in Concord. Refreshments will be served.
